Thanksgiving Dilemma

I'm hosting twelve people for Thanksgiving dinner (including myself). Of the twelve people who will be eating dinner, five will be drinking milk (Alex, Noah, Jenna, Rachel, and Julie). Everyone else will be drinking iced tea. (Grandma, Grandpa, Carrie, Kyle, Jordan, Dane, and myself). I don't have a lot of space in the fridge so I don't want to overbuy or overmake the drinks. I also don't want anyone to go thirsty.

How much of each kind of drink should I plan on buying or making? Use estimation to help you decide. Please explain your thinking. :)

  1. How big are your cups and how much liquid is in the milk (like is it 1 gallon?!?) and how much tea r u making?

  2. The adult glasses hold 10oz. The kids' glasses hold 8 oz, but we'll probably only pour about 5 oz at a time for each of the four children. We buy our milk by the gallon and I can make 2 quarts of tea at a time.

  3. 128 oz in a gallon

    ONE GALLON OF MILK
    5 oz for the kids
128 oz divided by 5 kids = 25.6 oz per kid
25.6 oz divided by 5oz (cup size) =5.12 refills so about 5 glasses of milk per kid

    HALF GALLON OF MILK
    5 oz for the kids
64 oz divided by 5 kids = 12.8 oz per kid
12.8 oz divided by 5oz (cup size)= 2.56 or 2 1/2 cups of milk per kid

    32 oz in a quart

    TEA (2 quarts)
    10 oz per adult
32 oz x 5 = 160 oz (five servings of tea to make based on your recipe or 10 quarts)
160 oz divided by 7= 22.857 oz per adult
22.857 divided by 10 oz = 2.29 oz per adult so each about 2 cups

some of these are approximates so you can check them.

    SO According 2 my calculations...
you should buy a half gallon of milk so that each kid can get 2 1/2 glasses of milk
(not one gallon because that would be too much milk *5 glasses a kid*)

and you should make 5 servings of tea (160 oz or 10 quarts)
so that each adult can have about 2 cups a person
    enjoy!!
